20 participants (additional participants may be considered case by case). Priority will be given to Harvard graduate students taking the course for credit. Harvard Postdocs can register too, and they will be granted access to the course as space allows.

## Course description

Cellular heterogeneity is increasingly important in modern cell biology, spanning multiple spatiotemporal scales. This course introduces computational techniques and machine learning methods for dissecting and quantifying heterogeneity in cellular imaging data. Participants will:

- Learn fundamental concepts of image processing, segmentation, tracking, and feature extraction.
- Gain practical experience with tools such as MATLAB, CellProfiler, and ImageJ.
- Explore both supervised and unsupervised machine learning methods, including deep learning techniques, tailored to cellular image analysis.

## Course objectives 

- Apply image analysis algorithms to extract quantitative metrics from cellular images.
- Utilize machine learning approaches to investigate cellular image heterogeneity.
- Develop proficiency with widely used image analysis and machine learning tools.

## Session dates, times, and location

Total Contact Hours: 8 (divided into four 2-hour sessions)

The course meetings are scheduled in **TMEC Room 333**, which is located within the Tosteson Medical Education Center, at 260 Longwood Ave, Boston, MA 02115**.**

- Session 1: April 14, 2025, 1:00–3:00 PM
- Session 2: April 15, 2025, 1:00–3:00 PM
- Session 3: April 17, 2025, 1:00–3:00 PM
- Session 4: April 18, 2025, 1:00–3:00 PM

## Milestone credit 

- Attend all sessions.
- Complete the image analysis workflow introduced in Session 2.
- Submit a concise report detailing workflows, methods, and key outcomes in Session 4.
