 **Date:** Wednesday, November 15, 2023
**Time:** 12:30pm-2:00pm
**Location:** Zoom

**Presenter:** [Chris Magnano](/people/chris-magnano), *PhD. Curriculum Fellow in the Center for Computational Biomedicine*

**Description:** This 1-hour workshop will be about AI and large language models (LLMs) in education, after the workshop participants will be able to:

- Define neural networks, machine learning, large language models, transformers, and other terms around LLMs
- Describe the key innovations in machine learning which allowed for the high-performance of current generation LLMs
- Summarize the training and prediction process for models like ChatGPT
- Engage with some of the ethical issues around LLMs and other AI models, both inside and outside the classroom
- Create effective LLM prompts for use in-class or for instructional design

Immediately after the workshop, for about half an hour (from 1:30-2pm), we will stay on in the Zoom room to hold a collaborative work-session to brainstorm prompts and activities using AI in our respective areas of expertise. The goal of the work-session is to create the start of a resource internal to HMS for example prompts to use in-class.

Please note this session will be recorded for Chris's teaching portfolio. All Harvard members are welcome to attend!

*The [HMS Curriculum Fellows Program](/) Education Workshop Series provides the Harvard Medical School Community with opportunities to learn about evidence based teaching practices in an informal, hands-on setting. Workshops are designed and run by Curriculum Fellows and are held in-person approximately once a month.*
