Information About HMS Remote Course Development Office Hours

The Harvard Medical School Program in Graduate Education is providing one-on-one or small group office hour sessions to members of the graduate faculty moving courses online for the fall semester. A variety of 'self-service' training resources have also been collected on the HMS-internal site How to Teach Online and the Teach Remotely site created by the Harvard Vice Provost for Advances in Learning. Office hours rely upon the expertise of current and former Curriculum Fellows to help instructors apply the lessons of these generalized resources to the unique details of their fall classes.
A handful of open office hour sessions are available for direct sign up. Please register for one of these sessions if you would like to discuss your course with a member of the Curriculum Fellows Program. For technical questions about how to use educational technologies like Zoom, Canvas and Panopto, please contact HMS IT at for support.  To schedule a session at an alternative time, or to plan a specific consultation about one of the questions listed below, please email with a brief description of your course and needs.

What should I be doing live in ‘class’ and what should I have my students do asynchronously?
How can I adapt the assignments or assessments I used to do in person for online learning?
How do I do group work in Zoom that feels productive and engaging?
How do I decide what to record on video? How do I get my students to actually watch it?
How can I design engaging and effective paper discussions for Zoom?
How do I translate my (whiteboard/powerpoint) lectures into something that works online?
What can I can do to engage students across multiple time zones?
How can I build a connected and inclusive class community over Zoom?

All upcoming sessions are available directly on the calendar and will be added throughout the summer as needed.
