Topic: Creating interactive tools for inquiry-based learning

About the workshop & what to bring:

Inquiry-based learning is a powerful, learner centered instructional method. While many scientific questions naturally lend themselves to inquiry-based learning, in a traditional non-laboratory classroom it can be infeasible to allow students to confirm or explore answers to these questions. Other scientific questions involve data at a scale that most students' level of technical skills can prevent inquiry from taking place.

In this workshop we will define inquiry-based learning and learn how implement it in the classroom with technical platforms such as Github pages and Quarto to create interactive tools for exploring data, models, and hypotheses.

No prior coding experience is required. However, many of the methods demonstrated will require some amount of technical knowledge to fully customize.

We ask that everyone who is able to bring a laptop.

If you are unfamiliar with this building, walk into the quad/lawn from Longwood, and enter TMEC through the "Building C" entrance (the door is marked as such). The TMEC entrance on Longwood is closed. If you cannot locate the "Building C" entrance, enter through any of the security entrances in the quad, and ask a guard to help you locate the room.
