Getting Active Learning Right

Bradley Coleman, Ph.D.
Interim Co-Director, HMS Curriculum Fellows Program

Over the last several years, multiple studies have demonstrated that active classroom approaches improve student learning outcomes and diminish race- and gender-based performance disparities. As a result, the use of mid-class questioning, paired discussions, worksheets and other activities has grown. Yet, all active learning is not created equal. In this workshop we will discuss and apply best practices that allow instructors to better integrate active learning approaches into their classrooms while maximizing the benefits for student learning.
