Who Wants to Explain Figure 1? Strategies to Optimize In-Class Paper Discussions
Tari Tan, Ph.D.
Curriculum Fellow, Neurobiology
The discussion of primary research articles is a core feature of science education at the graduate and undergraduate levels. In this interactive workshop, we will discuss the key components of a “successful” in-class paper discussion and describe how evidence-based teaching practices such as backwards design and inclusive teaching strategies can be implemented to optimize paper discussions. Participants will leave this workshop with practical tools to plan, carry out, and assess in-class paper discussions that are purposeful and inclusive of all students.
